McCall's Eagle by Rob-Caswell McCall's Eagle by Rob-Caswell
A homage to two of my now passed childhood influences: Gerry Anderson and Robert McCall. Lunar terrain by the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Eagle model by GraywolfStarkiller. DAZ Studio and Photoshop. Click here to see the McCall image that inspired this: [link]

What a dreadful T.V. series ('Space 1999') but what incredible artwork!

Yeah, 1999 was all kinds of silly, but as a lunar workhorse the Eagle is a pretty timeless design

As an atmospheric lander? Well... we're back to silly.

Just read the posts on this-i knew Anderson had passed-did'nt know McCall had.Ditto on  S'Satyrs comments about their future vision's.But then-it would appear you're doing a great job at carrying that torch.
And-Harry Haryhausen of stop-motion models fame recently passed.I'd love to see some of their sketch books published.

I love McCall's art! He did a lot of conceptual artwork for both "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and Disney's "The Black Hole", among others, although the Disney movie went with a very different look. It is much to humanity's detriment that more people don't share his (and our) outlook on space and the future.

McCall's vision was always so optimistic - almost like visual space poetry. Few aerospace artists put the "art" into their work like he did.

Yup I am still very interested in doing something. I littery just got back from surgery and the hospital. I had some fairly serious stuff done to help my long term medical condition.

Oof! Just read this one after replying to your other. So my back issue may not be a total non-sequiter! ;) I had two herniated discs a few years back. They healed with time... but my gut also expanded over that period. I'm still struggling to get back into pre-back-woe shape. Back stuff can just be so draining.....

While I could never buy the Eagle as a vehicle to land on Earth with, I still think the design might work quite well on the moon.

First time I ever saw someone light up those
mains on an Eagle

I guess they have to swap 180 to actually
slow down

Space 1999 had great sets and models. Shame about the stories and concept!

I liked the first season lots more than the second. The latter season really dumbed the whole thing down.... which is saying a lot considering it was never really a paragon of hard SF even on its better days.

Always liked McCall's work, especially because he used BIG canvas'es, often large walls at NASA centers and public buildings.

Right up there alongside Chesley Bonestell.

Nice subject and composition here.

The thing I like about McCall over Bonestell is the vibrant colors he used to portray space. It wasn't a dark and gloomy frontier in McCall's eyes, it was always full of bright wonder. He really encapsulates my feel for space exploration in visual form.
