Another thing to explore. Don't know how, if, or when it happens in the TOS universe, but I play Star Fleet Battles and there was the time before the Federation became standardized... where each member race operated their own ships in service of the Federation. That is at least until a majority of the Orion fleet flew off to form the notorious pirate cartels. After that came the standardized hulls and multiracial crews Be cool to explore that period before the saucers came to be
Didn't SFB focus on new/unique designs just for adversary ships? Like the Kzinti and Gorn? Or did they start going into areas like Vulcan, Andorian, and Tellerite ships in attempt to keep new stuff flowing into their product line?
Just the racial ships.. Kzitini, Gorn, Lyran. They did an Early Years set up... not sure if they included any of the National ships (Vulcan, etc) though. For new stuff they did different classes and variants, then started adding new races.
lol. It's half and half I suppose. The basic shape was made by someone else but it was a work in progress sketch which only showed the basics from the front upper quarter. The rear end with its shuttle porch and the underside and much of the detail is me.
I ask 'cause I'm trying to determine when Star Fleet stopped using photon torpedo trackways for recreational bowling and when they started adding dedicated alleys to the plans for new ships. (There are rumors of a horrible accident in which a party of bowlers was fired into space during a weapons control test, but it was hushed up.)
And the ship's bowling team in vacuum suits could be the backup emergency launching system! Translated from the Klingon: "How in Kalis' name are the earthers getting that much twist on their torpedoes??"
