Returning Survey Mission by Rob-Caswell Returning Survey Mission by Rob-Caswell
I could write some kind of story here, but really it was just an excuse to roll out James Murphy's lab eagle (w/ booster) model. Thanks to archangel72367 for supplying the needed materials for final OBJ conversion (and thanks to Karanua for giving his best shot). Eagles by James Muprhy, background image by Moonschilde_Stock [link] .

The lab eagle was always my uber favorite pod variant, so you WILL see more of it ;)

Very neat! I imagine this is how the end of the first Season 2 episode "The Metamorph" might have looked had the Alphans been able to retrieve BOTH of their Eagles before the planet Psychon exploded. (Ooops... SPOILER ALER--oh nevermind, it's been out for over 30 years!)

Of course, the planet looks better than some of the 'inkblot' planets did in the actual series, but in all honesty, some of those 'inkblots' actually worked pretty well, or would have if they had been surveying gas giants during an episode or two. Anyway, regarding this particular piece, I like that the planet looks BARELY able to sustain a survey crew and/or mining expedition, but does not look inviting enough to actually consider evacuating Alpha.

Yeah, 1999's planets were... "colorful". But they all tended to look psychedelic watercolor paintings

One feels that a detailed cockpit interior would add so much to this.

Yeah... I think it's something that I could pull off easier now than when I did this piece. But definitely - a good call.

Is there some sort of noise around the windows on the pod? I'm have problems with this model and bogus junk appearing on the module area. Sigh.

I think I had Archangel do the conversion for me, exporting an OBJ from Lightwave, as I recall. You could try batting your eyelashes at him? I probably have the installer somewhere... but digging it up might be a major bit of archeology. I have 17 DVD-Rs full of archived Poser content installers.

"Self aggrandizing"? Naaaaw!!! Thanks again! It's neat to see what pieces stand out to folks as "worthy to promote".

The "self" part was just a small joke of who provided the toys. The Worthy to promote is all you, buddy! ;)

Had this idea about the "Eagle Transporter"'s design being modified to being really a transatmospheric vehicle -just as the actual Space Shuttle is.
What would you think it would look like?
What changes would you make to it yet still recognizable and functional --as the "Eagle Transporter".

And this is a great illo here!!

I'm not sure what an updated/accurized Eagle would look like. And I'm not sure I'd want to know. Even if its atmospheric abilities defy logic and good design, it's still so icon... and" utilitarian sexy".

What makes the lab more attractive to you? Was it intended to move and orient itself independent of the Eagle?

I just like the shapes it offers. It creates more interesting angles for the Eagle to be viewed from AND it adds a nice sense of increased hardware utility to the craft (IMHO).

Sweet. If anyone coud do anything with those files, I know Dave can. I'm sure there was just some simple button I didn't push, but Lightwave wouldn't cooperate.
Glad you could FINALLY get them. anywhoo.
Almost makes me want to dust off my 1999 runtime and take it for a spin around the block!
One thing though, I'm going off of memory here; so I might be mistaken, but I think the booster sits atop between the landing pods.

Other than that OOOBERKEWL!!!

I guess, like my Trek stuff, I've been making 1999 images in my head since the late '70s, with no real outlet. So now that I have the tools and the models, it just gushes out. Glad you're enjoying the explosion :D
