Stallion Charge by Rob-Caswell Stallion Charge by Rob-Caswell
Another "what-if" in the 1946 skies above Europe. A pair of P-58 Stallions harass a trio of Ho229's heading towards Allied targets. Their Me262 escort responds (too late) and tried to get a bead on the escaping aircraft.

Is this design based on the failed Curtiss XP-55 Ascender?

I'm sure that was part of his inspiration.

An interesting concept.  Reminds me a lot of the fighter aircraft in the old but still superb Japanese animated movie "Wings of Honnemeise!"

Any time. I'd love to see one of those puppies as a 1/100 scale model (maybe through Shapeways)! Please?

That'd be cool! It's not my design, though, so I can't make that call.

Doesn't that aircraft have a lot of rudder on while it's rolling?

Not a notice-able one lol... but the 3 I've released have been selling pretty steady since I put them out (I have my own site as well as selling through CP) :)

Congrats on being the featured image for the Daily Deviation! ;)

You're quite welcome and thank-you for your interest in my works :) Keep up the great art!

I noticed a few questions about Pusher types vs normal aircraft in the comments on your other image...

The advantages are few but in theory worth it... There's less turbulence in the prop airflow which means more direct power to propel the aircraft, allowing for a slightly higher speed. Counter-rotating props also reduce engine induced torque which in theory means better stability in flight, plus they provide a boost in speed and control of the directed air for propulsion (there's more air directed into propulsion with less wasted boundary air thrown off the sides of the prop disc)...

The downsides are; engine over-heating due to reduced airflow over the engine (specially at engine start up and idle) requiring forced air cooling systems, increased engine wear due to the vibrations of the props and shafts, and in early prototypes, pitch stability issues due to the shift in center of gravity to the rear of the aircraft... There was also a serious issue with potential prop strikes on take-off or landing and with external stores and spent shell casings, though all of these issues could and were eventually solved and pusher-prop aircraft are still being produced to this day...

Also... I couldn't mount the drop-tanks further out-board as the landing gear are mounted into the re-enforced frame area and hinge under the tails. I gave the slight bend to the wing to help with ground clearance and also to help avoid prop strikes when releasing the external stores...

Sorry to be so long winded, but thought it'd help to have some extra info... :)

Aw congrats on the DD Arcas!! What's up with the spambot from hell, I noticed most DD's this day didn't have one. Well deserved to guy who has had such a high volume of impressive work that's been an asset in my positive experience on dA..

Yeah, that spam bot was pretty disheartening. I tried to keep up with report it, but when I woke up to 500 new spam messages, I just gave up. Not sure how I got singled out, aside from the DD feature?

Anyway, thanks for the heartfelt kudos! Much appreciated, my friend - and I just discovered that I didn't have you subscribed?!? Not sure how that happened, as I though I had. Ah well... problem solved :D

Hey, I had predicted the DD in my comment on 6/14. What do I win for that?  ;)

Seriously, this a well deserved acknowledgement of your talent.
