Description

One of the coolest things about working in the 3D medium is that sometimes you get ideas that may have otherwise eluded you when you're viewing a scene from an unplanned camera angle. I was setting up the lights on my McCall homage when stumbled on this view of Discovery against Jupiter and it really struck me. So I dropped a camera and decided to come back once I'd finished the McCall piece.

I guess I like this so much because a) it gives a good read on the overall shape of Discovery, and b) it's pretty unlike any view we saw in the movie. You know me.... always looking for a fresh view ;) It is a bit reminiscent of Drell-7's excellent Discovery image fav.me/d3a7v6w , but it wasn't a conscious copy on my part ;)

This image was rendered in DAZ Studio and postworked in Photoshop. The Pod model is by Alvatar via ShareCG.com, the Discovery is the model available at Vanishing Point. The background starfield is by FrostBo. Planet map based on NASA/JPL photography.
