Type-S Scout by Rob-Caswell Type-S Scout by Rob-Caswell
This is actually a piece from a larger image.... too large to scan. But in terms of technical details, this is perhaps my favorite image of the Type-S that I produced. It was HEAVILY influenced by design tweaks introduced to the craft by Tom Peters [link] . There are a few perspective problems that catch my eye, but on the whole I like it (sorry, Si - but I'm usually my own worse critic). The whole image originally saw print in GDW's Challenge magazine.

I didn't even know the creator of images that were my inspiration for a commission that I did lately! Love your work on this one and a whole lot of others !

I remember playing this ship just because it resembled a Star Destroyer and I was heavily into Star Wars at the time. Didn't ever occur to me that it looks more like the Icarus from PotA.

Lovely work. It reminds me of the sort of stuff I did back in the late Eighties.

Sorta. I mean the wedge shape like this is pretty generic.

Well... I did this drawing. I didn't design the original Type-S or anything, though :D
Ah, the days of youthier youth.... I miss them so....

Wow, incredible. The canopy looks nearly identical to one of several canopy experiments I was doing for the Type-S modelled in XSI and rendered using Crysis' sandbox. I was going for something sleeker than the usual Type-S look that would give more visibility. Being able to walk through the cockpit in-game was cool but it showed me that the visibility is extremely limited. So another canopy I experimented with had the entire roof transparent. Kind of like what you have there but bulging out just a bit.

3D walk throughs certainly are great design tools! Yeah, this might be well served by a couple of overhead viewports as well.

It's a basic shape, but it details that make (or break) ship like this. I guess, as with any game art, my goal was to make it look "fun to fly"! :)

It does that for sure. I know we all wanted one. I even seem to have very vague memories of wanting to build a mockup in the back yard or something ;)

I see what you mean with the perspectives ...
but it's still a way cool ship design!
sharp and edgy and....fast ...and solid enough for some funny warp-jumps
:)

Yeah, the ship is very angular and I had a hard time properly translating the distortion on some of those surfaces. That's the nice thing about working digitally: it easier to see mistakes and go back to fix them. Usually ;p

I'm glad this one tickles your sense of tech-sexy! ;)

An old Fat merchant. Played that campaign for nearly two years and we never did get rid of that ship, we couldn't we were still making payments on it.

Yeah and more room to hide the ..umm store our legal and completely documented cargo that never contained any sort of contraband.

come to think of it I need to see about suing a certain producer for stealing our rag tag crew of malcontents and renegades plying the space ways in a beat up old junker :P

With very few exceptions i think Traveller hit about every job idea ever pulled on that show...hmmm wait a second did we ever haul blackmarket beef????

the one advantage those S-types had over other ships..they could get you out of trouble faster than you got into it.
