As you can probably tell I'm a bit low on creative SF fuel at the moment. Late summer doldrums, or something. I've been spending some of my free time increasing my samurai cinema explorations into the grindhouse seventies fare. The appeal of this stuff comes from a completely different place (for me) compared to the 50's and 60's genre classics. It's like comparing Leone westerns to the genre fare from the 40's and 50's same trappings, but a totally different tone. Series like "Lone Wolf and Cub" and "Hanzo Razor" are just pure fun the way most b-movies are only they're generally of a higher production quality.

In recent weeks my old RPG game master and I reconnected via DA. Even though we've both been here a number of years, we hadn't realized who each other were until recently and there was much rejoicing. Larry (larry03052.deviantart.com/) introduced me to RPG's, back in '79 as well as introducing me to home computers with his TOTALLY UBER KEWL Apple II!!!! He also helped open my political eyes a bit wider, being an older college grad and all. So he's to blame for not an inconsequential amount of what I've become. Stop by and check out his Trekish starship construction kit graphics (larry03052.deviantart.com/). And for an only slightly embellished retelling of my RPG exploits in Larry's game world, check out my buddy Bill's "Starfarer" series (abacreative.deviantart.com/gal…).

That's really about all I've got at the moment unless you want me to share my shopping list. Life's been more or less "routine". Hopefully I'll be back on the SF illustration wagon soon enough.

I can relate. We lost a very favorite pet some months ago. <sigh> Three little tombstones out back, now. Our new cat, Ranger, is much younger than any at I've had since the 1980's, though, and his antics are a lot of fun to watch. There's nothing like a new cat to get over losing an old one, and each one has his/her own little personality and talents. This fellow is amazingly dexterous with his paws. And he will explain at great length why he does not like the vet's new diet...

Rob, have you checked out larry03052.deviantart.com/art/… ? I'd love to see some more takes on the idea, the aesthetic is "sorta" Trek, but more of a challenge I think.

Mmhmm, I too just haven't been able to find ignite any creative SF fuel for quite a few months now, despite a newer faster rig. Kudos on connecting again with an old friend after many years, it's quite a good feeling.

Aw snap, my old man had a Apple IIc too, which was also my intro to the new fangle hot damn world of command line computin'! Floppy disks ftw...

I'm not evern sure we had floppies on that old beast. It might have been all cassette tape drive.

Wow really, on a uber expensive Apple from the 80s? Maybe so...though I def recall many a cassette drive on a C64 and Sinclair beasts of ye olde past. These cassette drives lacked the random access storage ability so they were quite a bit slower. In those days the disk pretty much loaded the program & data as well since the HD and RAM capacities of desktops were nearly non-existent. Good times...

Thanks for the nod to the Starfarer days. Do you really think they're embellished? I think I was pretty faithful.

I'm right there with you on the lack of drive at the moment. Maybe the next Yamato series will kick me back into action. In the meantime, there's Minecraft. Mindless and oddly addictive. With the loss of my favorite pet and the departure of my son for Rwanda...I think I just need some Comfortably Numb time.

Ah yes, LIFE.  What happens while you are making plans.  I have been in a hardware rut of late.  My skill has exceeded my computer capabilities...(never thought I would be saying that this soon.)  That and the life thing.   Hope we can both get back into the groove of things soon though.  I miss the inspiration you exude!  (...eeeeewww) ;)
